About Wes White

Stephen Covey in his book, The Seven Habits of Highly Effective People, said that we want to give our children roots and wings. I have taken that idea as a theme for this web site. I want to help people develop roots and wings. I want them to have roots that gives them an internal foundation and wings that enable them to fly to great things.

I start this with my family. I am the father of seven children, six girls and one boy. I have a daughter-in-law and son-in-law and my first grandchild on the way. I’m the husband to my beautiful wife, Melinda.

For 10 years, I served as a Pastor in South Dakota and then 9 years in TN. I still have a desire to learn, listen, speak, write, travel, and drive Uber. I do some of all those things. This blog is one outlet, trying to help people develop roots and wings.

I’m the son of a Pastor, the grandson of two Pastors, and the great grandson of missionaries to South Africa. I’ve imbibed Christianity from my earliest days. I majored in History and Business Administration at Indiana Wesleyan University. I received a Master’s of Divinity at Mid-America Reformed Seminary and a Th.M. at Greenville Presbyterian Theological Seminary. I earned my Doctor of Ministry (D.Min.) from Reformed Theological Seminary in Charlotte in 2020.

My interests are in thinking through the best way to explain Christianity and show that it is relevant, practical, and helpful to the modern world. I enjoy exercise, hiking, poetry, guitar, dancing, languages, and other things. I enjoy studying and thinking about how organizational development, leadership, politics, and theology come together. I’ve learned a lot from C.S. Lewis, Francis Schaeffer, Francis Turretin, Wilhelmus à Brakel, Reinhold Niebuhr, Josef Pieper, Seneca, Murray Bowen, and Aristotle, among many others. I’m thankful to have been able to study a wide variety of perspectives on the world, but I’m always interested in more! 1. Thanks, Wes, for your help as a backup to our Smoky Mountain Expedition. We had a wonderful time last week and our team did great, but it was a comfort to know you and Evergreen and Bridgemont had our backs! I’m in the Smokies a couple of times a year and will look forward to worshiping with you and meeting you in person! Again, thanks for your help! 2. Your work is incredible, I hope it continues. I wanted to ask your permission to translate your translation of ‘A Summary of Elenctic Theology’ into Spanish. Its distribution will be free, on ‘Reformed Catholicism’, a website where we try to provide resources from the Reformed tradition in Spanish. Blessings.

  3. Hola, Josué, thanks for your encouragement. I will contact you off of this site about that work. Blessings!
